Valentine’s – the hard truth!

I love Valentine’s!  Anything that reminds me to acknowledge the people in my life that I love and most important in my life I welcome it.  I will be the first to admit my life gets a bit busy (as does everyone’s) and I am guilty of overlooking and taking for granted the people that I love.  So bring on Valentines!

For all those people who say everyday should be Valentine’s and we shouldn’t reserve only one day for it!  I agree!  But I do not do that and I would hesitate to guess most people don’t do that either.  Let’s be realistic.  Taking time to slow down and express how we really feel about people we love is not part of our regular programming.

For those people who complain that Valentine’s day represents the commercialization of love.  Well…… don’t buy anything.  Make a card, write a poem, give a massage.

Now the hard truth.  Valentine’s Day is used as a metric of where a relationship is and how much your partner(s) care about you.  Case and point is the massive increase in memberships at AshleyMadison which is a dating site for married men and women.  Their tag line is “Life is short. Have an affair.” “The day after Valentine’s Day is one of our biggest days of the year,” Biderman, founder and CEO of Ashley Madison told USA Today. “People are disappointed by their spouses’ lack of effort, and they feel especially undervalued when there is a societal expectation of romance. Certain days of the year act as litmus tests for many people in relationships.”

So for all reasons listed above.  Celebrate and love Valentine’s.  The world needs more love in it. However it can get it.

And remember when it comes to sex, there is no right way, there is no wrong way, there is only your way.
